The source code is licensed under the Elastic License 2.0. That license covers the software. It does not give you any rights to the Bosque name, logo, or brand. This policy explains what you can and can't do with them. It applies to everyone: customers, self-hosters, contributors, partners, and people who fork the code.
What is covered
- The name Bosque, alone or in combination with other words, such as Ask Bosque
- The Bosque logo and mark, in every form and color
- The Bosque brand identity, including the forest scenes, critter characters, and illustration style used to represent the product
- Names and logos that are confusingly similar to any of these
These are trademarks (and, for the artwork, also copyrighted works) of the licensor named in the NOTICE. Registration status can differ from country to country. We claim and will enforce our rights in these marks whether or not they are registered.
Names and logos of other companies mentioned in this repository, such as Convex, Clerk, OpenAI, Stripe, and Microsoft, belong to their owners.
What you can do without asking
- Say that you use Bosque. "We use Bosque", "our roadmap lives in Bosque", or "self-hosted Bosque".
- Use the name inside your own organization for your own install, including leaving the default branding in place.
- Write about Bosque in articles, reviews, talks, training, and documentation, and show the unmodified logo or screenshots of the product to identify it.
- State compatibility accurately. For example, "works with Bosque" or "integrates with Bosque". Use the name in plain text, and make it clear that you are the one making the product.
- Say a version is based on Bosque, in plain text, if it is a permitted fork. For example, "Based on Bosque by <the licensor>".
- Refer to us accurately when you describe a commercial relationship you actually have with us.
Keep the logo unmodified when you use it: no recoloring, stretching, animating, adding effects, or combining it with other marks.
What you can't do
- Use "Bosque", the logo, or anything confusingly similar as the name of your own product, service, company, app, plugin, package, or repository. That includes names like "Bosque Cloud", "Bosque Pro", "Bosque Enterprise", and "MyBosque".
- Register or use domain names, subdomains, social media handles, app-store listings, package names, or hashtags containing Bosque, or something similar, for a product or service that you offer to others, or that could be mistaken for ours.
- Suggest that we sponsor, endorse, approve, or are affiliated with you, your product, or your service when we aren't. Don't call something "official" unless it is.
- Offer Bosque as a hosted or managed service, under our name or any other. The license prohibits it separately.
- Buy search or social advertising on "Bosque" or similar terms in a way that sends people to a competing or confusing offer.
- Use the brand artwork as your own on products, merchandise, marketing, or another software product.
- Remove or obscure the Bosque name or logo from the code in a way that hides where the software came from, or remove the license and copyright notices.
- Use the marks in a way that is misleading, disparaging, unlawful, or damaging to our reputation.
Self-hosters
If you run Bosque for your own organization, you may keep the default branding on your install and use the name internally. Your install is not "official Bosque", and you may not present it to the public as the Bosque product or service.
If you customize the interface, you can replace the logo and brand artwork with your own. The product already supports per-workspace branding for this.
Do not put an install behind a public domain, subdomain, or login page that could lead people to believe it is run by us.
Forks and modified versions
You may distribute modified versions of the code only as the license allows. When you do:
- Rename it. Choose a name that does not include or resemble Bosque.
- Remove the Bosque logo and brand artwork from what you distribute.
- Keep the license and copyright notices, and mark your modifications, as the license requires.
- You may state in plain text that it is "based on Bosque".
Brand artwork
The critter characters, forest scenes, and other illustrations in this repository are licensed to you as part of the software, to run, modify, and distribute Bosque on the terms of the Elastic License 2.0. They are not licensed for use outside Bosque, as a brand or as independent artwork.
We don't publish a brand kit yet. If you need approved logo files, for an article, partnership, or integration, email hello@bosque.cc.
Partners and customers
A commercial license or partner agreement with us can include a limited right to use the Bosque name and logo for specific purposes. Those rights come only from the signed agreement, and only for what it says.
Reporting misuse
If you see our marks used in a way that this policy doesn't allow, email hello@bosque.cc with the subject "Trademark". Include the URL or a description of the use.
Enforcement
We may ask for the use to stop, ask platforms, marketplaces, hosting providers, and domain registrars to remove infringing content or listings, use domain-dispute procedures, and take legal action. We may also withdraw permission for any use if it becomes a problem. We reserve all rights.
Questions
If you aren't sure whether a use is okay, email hello@bosque.cc before you publish it.
